Adaptive configuration and maturity levei of defense mechanisms

Resumo: Among the Ego-owned resources to garantee the adaptive stability, stand out the defense mechanisms. This theoretical concept instilled the present research which tried to determine the relations between a measure of adaptive configuration of subjects who sought for psychoanalytic psychotherapy and the maturity levels of the defense mechanisms used. For this, two scales developed from clinical experience, wereemployed: Escala DiagnósticaAdaptativa Operacionalizada - EDAO and Defense Mechanisms R(ltingScales - DMRS.Outof 36 subjectspreviouslyassessed by means ofthe EDAO, 20 presenting stable adaptation were selected. 10ofthem were moderately adapted and 10severely adapted.On considering the defenses in terms ofthe maturity levei it was observed that both groups differentiated due to the employment of the defenses in relation to those extreme maturity levels. The intermediate levels did not prove to bediscriminating. Significant correlations were observed between the global scores ofboth scales.

Este conceito teórico inspirou a presente pesquisa, que procurou determinar as relações entre uma medida da configuração adaptativa de sujeitos que buscavam psicoterapia psicanalítica e os níveis de maturidade dos mecanismos de defesa. Duas escala, desenvolvidas a partir da experiência clínica, foram utilizadas: Escala Diagnóstica Adaptativa Operacionalizada - EDAO e Defense Mechanisms Rating Scales - DMRS. De um total de 36 sujeitos, previamente avaliados com a EDAO, selecionou-se 20 apresentando adaptação estável. 10 eram adaptados não eficaz moderados e 10 não eficaz severos. Quando se considerou as defesas em função do nível de maturidade, verificou-se que os dois grupos se diferenciavam em função do emprego das defesas dos níveis extremos de maturidade.Os níveis intermediários não se mostraram discriminativos.
