This study intends to investigate the hypothesis of the association between the ordinal position of children within a progeny, that is, its main interest is to know the patients who come to a psychological clinic placed in the Post Graduation Department of PUCCAMP (SP) in relation to their birth order and its influences on the patients' vital and psychological problems. It can be noticed that for a total sample of 595 families, meaningful differences were found, around .05 among the percentages that correspond to the comparison of first born with second children; they are meaningful on the levei of .01 in the case of comparisons of first born with children who were bom from the third up to the ninth position. The same statement is true in the cases of second children or the youngest children when compared to the group mentioned above (children who were bom from the third up to the ninth position).
