MENTAL AND KINETIC IMAGERY AMONG ATHLETES OF COLLECTIVE AND INDIVIDUAL SPORTS

The purpose of the present study was to compare leveis of mental and kinetic practice among young athletes involved in collective and individual sports. The independent variab/es were: levei of school attendance, years of sports practice. Havíng been subjected to a program of mental training was used as thee inclusion criteria in lhe sampling procedure. The sample consisted of 366 individuais (152 females and 214 males). The average age was 20.29 years. These subjects were divided into groups according to the independent variab/es of this study. For the schoo/ levei there were 205 individuais in lhe group "UT" (50 females and 155 males) and 161 subjects ín lhe group "12A" (102 fema/es and 59 males). When organized according to lhe type of sport, 117 athletes practíced a col/ective sport (44 females and 73 males) and the individual sports group consisted of 143 subjects (31 females and 112 males). The results showed that there were statistical significant differences between lhe sexes for mental imagery. There were a/so signifícant differences between the groups according to the years of practice. These results tend to confirm some of the previous research pub/ished in this scientific area, however lhe arguments that we use to exp/ain some lhe values obtained differ from the known literature.
