Resumo: It has been found that disturbances in the phobic personality, derived from a fault in the relationship with the primary continent, have two basic constants. The first one has to do with the kind of bond established with the objects, which is determined by fusion. Whenever there is a lack of determination of the ego functions, the patient iinds himseli in a state of indeiinition towards the continent and towards his own contents, making difficult for him to distinguish between inner and outer worlds. The bond by fusion apparently profects him from the anxiety dissolution and death of the individuality. The second basic constant is, precisely, the anxiety deriving from the absence of a gàod object widely internalized as continent for itself. This anxiety is responsible for the individual feeling himself permanently on the brink of an abyss and at the mercy of the violence of bizarre objects. I n these areas of the mind, instead of definitions, we find emotional indiferentiation and desorganization, comparable to a caotic primitive uni verse, subject, at the same time, to high intensity pressures and with no control mechanisms at ali. The problem faced by the analyst is how to contribute for the transformation of this primitive uni verse to a universe where emotions are simbolized.
