Phenomenological psychology: a theoretical humanistic approach

Resumo: This essay aims to provide a theoretical foundation for the meaning of humanistic phenomenological psychology as conducted in an academic environment. The text starts by describing Phenomenology as a form of philosophical thinking that focuses on subjective human experience. Phenomenology attempts to understand the reality of the issues scientifically studied in Psychology. The first form of Phenomenological Psychology derives from Phenomenology as a philosophy and can be used in both psychological and psychiatric practice. Another form of Phenomenological Psychology, that is also inspired by Philosophy but employed scientifically in Psychology, consists ofqualitative studies of specific, situated human experiences. This second form is discussed from a theoretical, humanistic point of view. Finally, as an illustration, seven steps for phenomenological humanistic research and professional practice are suggested.

Inicia descrevendo a fenomenologia como um modo de pensamento filosófico caracterizado pela consideração da experiência enquanto realidade vivida subjetivamente. Ela estuda a realidade daquilo que a psicologia pesquisa cientificamente. A fenomenologia inspira a construção de uma psicologia fenomenológica derivada da filosofia com aplicações no campo da prática psicológica e psiquiátrica. Inspira também uma outra forma de psicologia fenomenológica, que consiste no estudo qualitativo de experiências específicas e situadas, e que é praticada cientificamente no âmbito da psicologia. Essa segunda forma de psicologia fenomenológica é aqui discutida a partir de fundamentos teóricos humanistas. Como ilustração, sete passos da pesquisa em psicologia fenomenológica humanista são indicados no final do texto.
