Resumo: This research aimed to identify the barriers that interfere with theproduction of those journals edited by Brazilian universities. The model of scientific and technological information transfer through published documents(King, 1981) was used was used [in the analysis of] 54 journals, published by 12 universities were investigated. It was found thato in the beginning and at the end of the processo there is human potential for the generation andutilization of the knowledge distributed by such journals. However, the lack of papers submitted and qualified editorial teams, as well as the endogeny inthe evaluation processo and the limited circulation of those workso are some of the facts that compromise the quality and the levei of trust deposited in these published material.

Utilizando como referencial o Modelo de Transferência de Informação Científica e Tecnológica através de documentos publicados, idealizado por King (1981), foram investigadas 54 revistas publicadas por doze universidades brasileiras. Constatou-se que existe no início e no final do processo, potencial humano para a geração e utilização do conhecimento veiculado por meio desses periódicos científicos.
