Resumo: An analysis of the historical trajectory of the relation between teaching and library. Focussing on the contribution of the Jesuit libraries and the way it helped itseducational and catechetical functions. It is also considered the transformation in the dialog between library and teaching since the royal family arrival and thestrengthening of it in the past decades during the Second Republic, and the tutorial category involvement. It is discussed the important contribution of the“escolanovistas” for the creation of libraries in Brazil. Also analysing the role of the libraries during the Populist period. It is concluded that the dialog between school and library depends on the historical, political and socialmoment, that consists of a relationship of absolute effervescence or totalsuperficiality.

Enfoca-se a contribuição das bibliotecas dos jesuítas e as maneiras pelas quais estas serviram para atender suas funções educacionais e catequéticas. Trata-se das transformações no diálogo biblioteca e ensino com a chegada da família real e o fortalecimento do mesmo nas últimas décadas na Segunda República e o envolvimento da classe professoral. Discute-se a relevante contribuição dos escolanovistas para a criação de bibliotecas escolares no Brasil. Analisa-se o papel das bibliotecas no período populista.
