Resumo: This study had as objectives: a) to identify theperformance ofthe undergraduate course of librarianship at PUC-Campinas; b) to verify ifthere is congruence between theprofessional education offered at the Library School and its graduates actual jobs; c) to know the assessement the teaching staff make of their own work and d) to identify the librarians habilities and competences looked for by their employers. The survey was conducted through questionnaires applied to: the graduatesfrom 1991 to 1995 ; thefinalyear students and the teaching staff; as well as interviews with employers from various kinds of intitutions. The major results showed that the Library School must make efforts and curriculum changes in order to keep abreast with new developments in the information field so that its students are prepared to face present andfuture challenges in their work
