AT THE TOUCH OF THE ATTACKS: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW ON THE PERCEPTIONS OF THE HEALTH-ILLNESS PROCESS FOR UMBANDISTS

Integrative literature review, whose objective was to describe the content addressed in the scientific literature on the perception of the health-disease process for Umbandists  and to analyze the consequences of the influence of this religion for the promotion of the health of these practitioners. The scenario was the Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library using the keywords “Umbanda”, associated by the connector “AND” to the descriptor “health” and “OR” to the descriptor “cure”; and the keyword "Umbanda", associated by the connector "AND" to the descriptor "disease". The review made it possible to understand how Umbanda practitioners perceive the health-disease process, according to the religious environment in which they are inserted and how they differ from the notions constructed from biomedical knowledge. Studies point to the importance of healing practices offered by Umbanda, and demonstrate that, sometimes, there is an understanding that health and disease coexist in an integrated way.
