SNOWPIERCER: BETWEEN THE DESIRE FOR SERVANTITY AND HOPE FOR A LIFE OFF THE TRAIN

The present text analyzes the television series Snowpiercer (2020) according to the concepts of liquid modernity, treated by the Polish sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, of voluntary servitude, developed by the French philosopher Étienne de La Boétie, approaching the phenomenon of fundamentalism. The methodological path followed will be through reflections about the religion lived in the tracking of the contemporary religious phenomenon along with Practical Theology. The thesis proposed is that capitalism, represented by the train and Mr. Wilford, has become hegemonic and is the true and only “catholic” religious entity, in an empty and “frozen” world of meaning, where survival is linked to consumption. However, there is hope for the fulfillment of the promise of life outside the train, of the beginning of a new world, a “New Eden”, that is, to leave this logic and try something new, despite the risk of gestating new problems and new “Wilford’s”.
