THE CHURCH THAT WELCOMES AND SUPPORTS: HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF THE CHURCH FACED WITH SOCIETY’S PROBLEMS

Before the diversified calamities that take place over society as a whole in the contem­porary world as the previous pandemics, the church shows its guiding and humanitar­ian role (GAEDE NETO, 2001) as it brings about not only hope by means of faith, but similarly by means of help in the fields of psychology, work, law, food among others, in light of what shows the academic literature (BOFF, 1999; FERREIRA JÚNIOR, 2018). The present-day article, therefore, aims at bringing light to a panoramic perspective in the history of the church and how it, as an institution, has been developing its diaconal role throughout the different times in world history (SCHWARTZMAN, 2004; FERREIRA JÚNIOR, 2018; STARNITZKE, 2013). Under a bibliographic and qualitative scope, we aim at portraying panoramically some relevant data regarding the positive role of church since its first actions in the old apostolic times until contemporaneity, with the huge advent of information technology (SPADARO, 2012; RIO, 2021). The research results point out to different and more complex ways to develop the faith of the (non) believers as well as the feeling of belonging from these ones concerning the theological and religious reality and the promotion of a more socially engaged reality, which is attentive to the local necessities of a given population, whether this need regards areas of social, health, work, educational, psychological or religious development.
