Resumo: This work was elaborated from the studies developed in the subject - Fundamentals of Education - of the Graduate Program in Education at the State University of Goiás, PPGE/Inhumas. Based on the bibliographic reference made available during the referred discipline, the objective of this article is: to understand the conception of teaching from the perspective of formation, from the work - De Magistro: sobre o mestre, by Tomás de Aquino. For this, the text establishes an approximation of the life of Thomas Aquinas in the educational historical context, especially of the universities in the Middle Ages, in the sense of understanding the movement of Aquinas's thought with a view to thinking about the master's responsibility in the intellectual work with the student in the sense of going from potency to act in terms of training. The study made it possible to understand that teaching assumes a master-disciple relationship and, even if both are in different places from the point of view of knowledge, they seek the same thing, knowledge. The signs that the master gives to the disciple inspire him to know what he still does not know or knows superficially. Teaching, therefore, is an intellectual work that cannot be carried out without recognition of the importance of the work itself and clarity on the part of the master in relation to his responsibility for the work he performs. Thus, above all, it presupposes freedom of thought and the exercise of the master's and disciple's intellectual autonomy in the pursuit of knowledge.

Com base no referencial bibliográfico disponibilizado durante a referida disciplina, o objetivo deste artigo é: compreender a concepção de ensino sob a perspectiva da formação, a partir da obra - De Magistro: sobre o mestre, de Tomás de Aquino. Para isso, o texto estabelece uma aproximação da vida de Tomás de Aquino no contexto histórico educacional, em especial das universidades na Idade Média, no sentido de compreender o movimento do pensamento de Aquino com vistas a pensar a responsabilidade do mestre no trabalho intelectual junto ao estudante no sentido de ir da potência ao ato no que refere à formação. O estudo possibilitou a compreensão de que o ensino supõe a relação mestre e discípulo e, mesmo que ambos estejam em lugares diferentes do ponto de vista do conhecimento, buscam a mesma coisa, o saber. Os sinais que o mestre dá para o discípulo o inspira a conhecer aquilo que ainda não sabe ou sabe de modo superficial. O ensino, portanto, é um trabalho intelectual que não se realiza sem que haja reconhecimento da importância do trabalho em si e clareza por parte do mestre em relação à sua responsabilidade quanto ao trabalho que realiza.
