Resumo: | Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted virus belonging to the family of the Papilomaviridae that mainly affects young people of both sexes and have an active sexual life, capable of inducing oncogenic lesions in epithelial tissues. The present study evaluated the knowledge and perception of biomedicine scholars about human papillomavirus (HPV) infection associated with cervical cancer and the anti-HPV vaccine. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, which questionnaires were applied at a Higher Education Institution in the interior of the Goiás States’ with the academics of the biomedicine graduation. The questionnaires contained 38 objective questions related to knowledge about Human papillomavirus, cervical cancer and the anti-HPV vaccine. The collected data were analyzed by the program GraphPad Prism version 4, with application of Fisher's test. The study complied with all ethical requirements requested by the Research Ethics Committee. The results were quite similar, especially in relation to the vaccine and Human papillomavirus infection with a general average of above 75% for both subjects, already in relation to cervical cancer, knowledge was considered insufficient with a general average of 62% being one of the worrisome factors, since the virus infection is considered a serious public health problem. It´s noticed that the knowledge of the biomedicine academics was satisfactory and gradual according to the period studied, however some important questions were answered erroneously, mainly in relation to the cervical cancer. |
