Resumo: Abstract: this essay will examine how nature in Vidas secas, by Graciliano Ramos, is monstrous and deformed. Vidas secas discursively retrieves the question of nature in Brazilian literature, presented since 19th century by the romantic novel, present in nation project, and gives a new treatment to literary space when deforms the romantic exuberant landscape to replace by the caatinga. Temos como objetivo analisar como Graciliano Ramos deforma essa paisagem nacional no modernismo de 1930, servindo-se de metáforas que revelam um processo excludente na construção de um ideal nacional.
