CARE, ACTIVISM AND GENDER: A CASE STUDY OF A GROUP OF WOMEN ACTIVISTS AND DISCUSSIONS FROM ECOFEMINIST THOUGHT

Resumo: Is there a relationship between private care socially attributed to women and environmental activism? This question is initially answered in relation to the case study of a collective of women who initially organized themselves as mothers in search of healthy and sustainable food for their young children. Based on this case, the hypothesis is designed that caring for the family, attributed to women, has the potential to awaken them to environmental activism, under favorable conditions; however, this same care is an additional barrier to remaining in public life. These ideas are then discussed  by strands of ecofeminist thought, which relates the role of women as those responsible for the work of reproducing life with their interest in caring about the environment.

Esta pregunta se responde inicialmente en relación con el estudio de caso de un colectivo de mujeres que inicialmente se organizaron como madres en busca de una alimentación sana y sostenible para sus hijos pequeños. A partir de este caso, se diseña la hipótesis de que el cuidado de la familia, atribuido a las mujeres, tiene el potencial de despertarlas al activismo ambiental, en condiciones favorables; sin embargo, este mismo cuidado es una barrera adicional para permanecer en la vida pública. Estas ideas son luego discutidas a la luz de corrientes de pensamiento ecofeminista, que relacionan el papel de la mujer como responsable del trabajo de reproducción de la vida con su interés por el cuidado del medio ambiente.Existe uma relação entre cuidados privados socialmente atribuídos às mulheres e ativismo ambiental? Essa pergunta é respondida inicialmente em relação ao estudo de caso de um coletivo de mulheres que se organizaram inicialmente como mães em busca de alimentação saudável e sustentável para seus filhos pequenos. Com base nesse caso, desenha-se a hipótese de que os cuidados com a família, atribuídos às mulheres, tem o potencial de despertá-las para o ativismo ambiental, em condições favoráveis; porém, esse mesmo cuidado coloca-se como uma barreira a mais para a permanência na participação na vida pública.
