Resumo: This article aims to analyze the conception of human nature revealed in the text The nature of man, one of the fundamental writings of the Corpus Hippocraticum to understand this issue in Hippocratic Medicine. In it, the Humoral Theory is presented, by which it is argued that we are made up of four primary substances, called "humors", which are influenced by the environment. The author's main objective is to support the thesis of a physical and variable human nature, which changes over time, under the action of water, earth, fire and air, the seasons and the ages of the thus making a critique of timeless metaphysical conceptions, as well as the monist pre-Socratic perspective, it is worth mentioning, philosophers and doctors, who defended the composition of human nature by just one substance. According to Polybus, the author of the text, only the understanding of a nature composed of several substances, and not just one, could explain the appearance of diseases, generation, corruption and health itself.

Nele, é apresentada a Teoria Humoral, pela qual se defende que somos constituídos por quatro substâncias primárias, chamadas de “humores”, as quais sofrem influência do ambiente. O principal objetivo do autor é o de sustentar a tese de uma natureza humana física e variável, que se altera ao longo do tempo, sob a ação da água, da terra, do fogo e do ar, das estações do ano e das idades do indivíduo, realizando, assim, uma crítica às concepções atemporais metafísicas, bem como à perspectiva pré-socrática monista, vale ressaltar, de filósofos e médicos, que defendiam a composição da natureza humana por apenas uma substância.
