The purpose of this article is to analyze the ‘subversion’ of the concept of space held by Merleau-Ponty, whe He discovers the importance of Freud’s unconscious to his philosophy. This author, in his work “The Structure of Behavior” (1942) and “Phenomenology of Perception” (1945), criticizes the notion of physical and geographical space that underlies the behavioral concept of Pavlov and Watson behavior for the following reasons: a) comprises not space as the previously given to experiences; b)comprises the space while an irradiating field stimulation that affects the body which it relates; and c) compromises the homogeneous space for any and all organisms (both simpler structures – invertebrates – as the most complex – dog, human, etc.), and what sets them apart are the answers that those bodies give to stimuli. For Merleau-Ponty, the surroundings (Umwelt) in which man experiences his behavior is not the same as the animal. The human establishing with the environment, so that it influences and is influenced by the surroundings, that is, it also receives the influence of the human being changes. Only from the works “Parcours Deux” (1951-1961) and “Psychology and Pedagogy of The Child” (2006), Merleau-Ponty makes the unconscious theme of his reflections, shifting his philosophy of the connection between time and space and raising the level of space of dreams. |
