Resumo: | The general objective of this article is to relate the concept of religious fundamentalism with politics in the Brazilian public scene in recent years, choosing as a typical exemplary model the use and abuse that Bolsonaro and Bolsonarism made of the words of Jo 8.32 (“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall you free”). As an integral part of a broader research project, this article focuses on Bolsonaro's first speeches after the result of the second round of elections in 2018. As for methodology, in a critical dialogue with Rubem Alves' corpus, I propose that the truth is polyphonic and that its reduction to a single meaning by any politician with the Bible in hand puts the status of democracy in question. Thus, the meanings of fundamentalism were borrowed from the work and life story of Rubem Alves, and updated by me, with a view to understanding the contemporary Brazilian political scene. |

Como parte integrante de un proyecto de investigación más amplio, este artículo se atiene a los primeros discursos de Bolsonaro después del resultado de la segunda vuelta de las elecciones de 2018. En cuanto a la metodología, en diálogo crítico con el corpus de Rubem Alves, propongo que la verdad es polifónica y que su reducción a un único sentido por parte de cualquier político con la Biblia en la mano coloca el estatuto de la democracia en cuestión. Así, los significados del fundamentalismo fueron tomados de la obra y de la historia de vida de Rubem Alves, y actualizados por mí, con miras a comprender el escenario político brasileño contemporáneo. O objetivo geral deste artigo é relacionar o conceito fundamentalismo religioso com a política na cena pública brasileira dos últimos anos, elegendo como modelo típico-exemplar o uso e o abuso que Bolsonaro e o bolsonarismo fizeram das palavras de Jo 8.32 (“E conhecereis a verdade, e a verdade vos libertará”). Como parte integrante de um projeto de pesquisa mais amplo, este artigo se atém aos primeiros discursos de Bolsonaro após o resultado do segundo turno das eleições em 2018. Quanto à metodologia, em diálogo crítico com o corpus de Rubem Alves, proponho que a verdade é polifônica e que sua redução a um único sentido por parte de qualquer político com a Bíblia na mão coloca o estatuto da democracia em questão.
