Resumo: This article intends to analyze the action of the spanish-cuban Jesuit Manuel Foyaca de la Concha in the Latin American social apostolate throughout the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, a period in which he was one of the most important catholic intellectuals in Latin America, occupying prominent positions in Catholic Action, editing magazines, founding social centers and undertaking a wide dissemination of the Social Doctrine of the Church. The hypothesis defended is that the social apostolate promoted by him in this epoch configured a transition between Social Catholicism of the first half of the twentieth century and Liberation Christianity systematized from the 1970s.

O presente artigo pretende contribuir neste debate através da análise da atuação do jesuíta hispano-cubano Manuel Foyaca de la Concha no apostolado social latino-americano nas décadas de 1940, 1950 e 1960. Para tanto, recorremos ao conceito de profetismo como categoria histórico-teológica, o qual admite a temporalidade da profecia e leva em consideração a articulação íntima da mesma a conjunturas históricas específicas. Em seu período profético (1940-1966), Manuel Foyaca se tornou um dos mais importantes intelectuais católicos da América Latina, tendo ocupando cargos de destaque na Ação Católica, editado revistas, fundado centros sociais e empreendido uma ampla divulgação da Doutrina Social da Igreja.
