Resumo: This paper intends to reflect and investigate the conception of human nature in the works of Augustine of Hippo (354-430 d.C.); as well as the possibility of knowing God through the material world. In the making of his cosmogony, Augustine was heavily influenced by neoplatonism, especially Plotinus. The hiponense doesn't elaborate a systematic work about ontology. However, as it seems to us, the problem of being is present in the background of all philosophical production. The central point is found the problematic about visio Dei: how man knows and realizes the divine being only through the experience of the category of the material and changeable. This paper argues about divine knowledge from two notions: the ratio and ordo; and explains how God is in relation to himself and also to his creation.

En la construcción de su cosmogonia Agostinho fue bastante influenciado por el neoplatonismos, en especial Plotino. El hiponense no elabora una obra sistemática sobre ontologia, aunque, por lo que parece, el problema del ser esta como fondo en toda su producción filosófica. El lema central se encuentra en la problemática de visio Dei: como el hombre conoce y aprende a ser divino solo con su experiencia en la categoría del material y mudable. Este trabaja el divino saber a partir de los conceptos: A ratio e a ordo; y diserta en cómo Dios se relaciona con el mismo y también a su creación.O presente trabalho pretende refletir e investigar a concepção de natureza humana na obra de Agostinho de Hipona (354-430 d.C.); bem como a possibilidade do conhecimento de Deus através do mundo material. Na construção de sua cosmogonia Agostinho foi bastante influenciado pelo neoplatonismo, em especial Plotino. O hiponense não elabora uma obra sistemática sobre ontologia, contudo, ao que nos aparenta, o problema do ser está como plano de fundo em toda sua produção filosófica. O mote central encontra-se na problemática da visio Dei: como o homem conhece e apreende o ser divino apenas com a vivência da categoria do material e mutável.
