The trajectory of McLuhan’s thoughts on the context of Brazilian Communication

Resumo: | The purpose of this research is to reflect on the history and the repercussion of McLuhan´s thoughts on Communication in Brazil. Since the translation of McLuhan’s early works into Portuguese, still in the 1960s, Brazilian Communication thought has found itself deeply marked by the ideas of this eminent author. To undertake this research, we reviewed articles, books and Brazilian dictionaries of Communication in order to understand how McLuhan was referenced and understand. This analysis allowed the construction of three phases that we consider essential to understand the impact of McLuhan´s thought in Brazil: ambiguity, silence and appropriation. Despite the other phases, the latter is marked by an appropriation of the ideas of the author, especially because of the advent of the Internet, which definitely marks McLuhan as one of the leading thinkers of this era. |

Desde la traducción de las primeras obras del autor al portugués, aún en la década del 60, el pensamiento comunicacional brasileño se ha visto profundamente marcado por las ideas del eminente teórico. Para emprender esta pesquisa, analizamos artículos, libros y diccionarios de la comunicación brasileños en la perspectiva de comprender cómo el pensamiento del autor fue referenciado e interpretado. Este análisis nos permitió la construcción de tres fases que consideramos esenciales para entender la repercusión del pensamiento de McLuhan en Brasil: ambigüedad, silencio y apropiación. Con relación a las otras fases, esta última está marcada por una apropiación del pensamiento del autor, especialmente, debido al advenimiento de Internet, que señala definitivamente a McLuhan como uno de los principales pensadores de nuestra era.A proposta deste trabalho de investigação é refletir sobre a história e a repercussão do pensamento de McLuhan sobre a pesquisa em Comunicação no Brasil. Desde a tradução das primeiras obras do autor para o português, ainda na década de 60, que o pensamento comunicacional brasileiro se vê profundamente marcado pelas ideias desse eminente teórico. Para empreender esta pesquisa, analisamos artigos, livros e dicionários da Comunicação brasileiros na perspectiva de compreender como o pensamento do autor foi referenciado e interpretado. Esta análise nos permitiu a construção de três fases que consideramos essenciais para entender a repercussão do pensamento de McLuhan no Brasil: ambiguidade, silêncio e apropriação.
