Resumo: The paper approaches the Brazilian epoch telenovela “Nos Tempos do Imperador” (2021; Rede Globo de Televisão) as a peculiar field of social symptoms. Analyzing the televisual narrative, it is possible to perceive vivid images of a past which is still alive, functioning both as a metaphor and metonymy of Brazilian present social and political context and as an allusion to its politicians’ performances. Considered under such perspective, the focused telefiction presents itself as a document of contemporaneity, blurring the boundaries between past and present discourses and situations.

Al analizar la narrativa, es posible ver un pasado que persiste, funcionando como metáfora y metonimia de los contextos sociales y políticos en Brasil hoy, y la alusión a personalidades políticas activas en el país. Se considera que la teleficción en cuestión se presenta como un documento de contemporaneidad, desdibujando los límites entre los discursos temporales (pasado y presente) que allí se cruzan.O presente estudo aborda a telenovela brasileira “Nos Tempos do Imperador” (2021; Rede Globo de Televisão) como campo do sintoma. Analisando a narrativa verifica-se a colocação em tela de um passado que persiste, funcionando como metáfora e metonímia de contextos sociais e políticos do Brasil de hoje, e a alusão a personalidades políticas atuantes no país.
