The dream of the city: Fear e interaction in the imagined metropolis

Resumo: | Contemporary metropolises, where ephemerality and speed assume fundamental economic roles, propitiate the emergence of ambiances and imaginaries about ideal or dream cities. In this paper, we aim to study, from a reading of the anthropology of emotions and urban studies, an évasion situation: the fantastic short story A Tale of Two Cities, from the Sandman comics, by Neil Gaiman. In the short story, the dream city becomes a labyrinth of significations from which individuals seek to escape. Methodologically, from a qualitative, hermeneutic-interpretative perspective, we read text and images from the comic, observing the imagined city as an attempt of évasion driven by the question about how fear and mediatized interaction produce meanings about the contemporary city. As a preliminary result, we observed that in the comic the individual is divided between the security of private space and the desire to launch himself into the unknown space, to encounters and death. |

En este artículo nos proponemos estudiar, a partir de una lectura de la antropología de las emociones y de los estudios urbanos, una situación de évasion: el cuento fantástico A Tale of Two Cities, del cómic Sandman, de Neil Gaiman. En el cuento, la ciudad de los sueños se convierte en un laberinto de significaciones del que los individuos buscan una salida. Metodológicamente, desde una perspectiva cualitativa, hermenéutica-interpretativa, leemos textos e imágenes del cómic, observando la ciudad imaginada como un intento de évasion movido por la pregunta sobre hasta qué punto el miedo y la interacción mediatizada producen significados sobre la ciudad contemporánea. Como resultado preliminar, observamos que en el cómic el individuo se divide entre la seguridad del espacio privado y el deseo de lanzarse al espacio desconocido, a los encuentros y a la muerte.As metrópoles contemporâneas, onde efemeridade e velocidade assumem papéis econômicos fundamentais, propiciam o surgimento de ambiances e imaginários sobre cidades ideais ou de sonho. Neste artigo, temos como objetivo estudar, a partir de uma leitura da antropologia das emoções e de estudos urbanos, uma situação de évasion: o conto fantástico “Uma história de duas cidades”, dos quadrinhos de Sandman, de Neil Gaiman. No conto, a cidade de sonho torna-se labirinto de significações do qual os indivíduos buscam uma fuga. Metodologicamente, a partir de uma perspectiva qualitativa, hermenêutico-interpretativa, lemos texto e imagens da HQ, observando a cidade imaginada como tentativa de évasion movidos pela questão sobre em que medida medo e interação midiatizada produzem sentidos sobre a cidade contemporânea.
