The value of “egocard” affectivity and symbolic violence in “Off-Axis network”

Resumo: | The Off-Axis network, made up of groups of cultural producers and activists who are active on the Brazilian alternative scene, has become widely known since 2013 through the use of Ninja Media – experience made within the network. How can the imaginary of brotherhood, union and complicity between the groups hide the use of symbolic violence to forge the image of cohesion and enhance the dynamics of organisation and mobilisation? To analyse the tensions and contradictions in the collaborative practices among members, research in the interdisciplinary field between Communication and Cultural History uses the method of documentary analysis on data obtained from interviews, participant observation and monitoring email lists and social networks. We conclude that, in an environment where working conditions are informal, based on pacts of honour and debts of gratitude, the imaginary fable from which they are establishing a historic and revolutionary movement, similar to modernism and tropicalism, represents the central motivation that legitimises symbolic violence in the name of an idealised cause. |

Para analizar las tensiones y contradicciones en las prácticas colaborativas entre los integrantes, la pesquisa en el campo interdisciplinar entre la comunicación y la historia cultural emplea el método del análisis documental sobre datos obtenidos en entrevistas, observación participante, acompañamiento de listas de e-mail y redes sociales. Notamos que, en un ambiente de relaciones de trabajo informal basadas en pactos de honra y deudas de gratitud, la fabulación del imaginario de que ellos constituyen un movimiento histórico y revolucionario, análogo al modernismo y al tropicalismo, representa la motivación central que legitima las violencias simbólicas en nombre de la causa idealizada. A rede Fora do Eixo, constituída por coletivos de produtores culturais e ativistas atuantes no cenário alternativo brasileiro, tornou-se amplamente conhecida a partir de 2013 com a atuação da Mídia Ninja – experiência formulada no âmbito da rede. De que modo o imaginário de irmandade, união e cumplicidade entre o grupo pode ocultar o emprego de violência simbólica para forjar a imagem de coesão e intensificar as dinâmicas de organização e mobilização? Para analisar as tensões e contradições nas práticas colaborativas entre os integrantes, a pesquisa no campo interdisciplinar entre a Comunicação e a História Cultural emprega o método da análise documental sobre dados obtidos em entrevistas, observação participante, acompanhamento de listas de e-mail e redes sociais.
