Inconsistencies in journalistic practice: The (in)visibility of women as journalistic sources in the program Combate ao coronavirus

Resumo: The article discusses the absence of gender-focused inclusion practices in journalistic production. The focus of the study is the invisibility of female sources in the program Combate ao coronavirus (Rede Globo de Televisão). All 49 editions were selected, and the sources consulted and cited directly were analyzed. The discussion is based on gender as an analytical perspective in interface with journalism studies. The article discusses the promotion of the invisibility of female specialist sources and finds that the program did not recognize women’s protagonism by not resorting to women as journalistic sources. The discussion points to the prevalence of male sources who are experts in the construction of news, despite the majority presence of women professionals in the field of health in Brazil.

El foco del estudio es la invisibilidad de las fuentes femeninas en el programa Combate ao coronavirus, transmitido por Rede Globo de Televisão. Se seleccionaron las 49 ediciones y se analizaron las fuentes consultadas y citadas directamente. La discusión se basa en el género como perspectiva analítica en interfaz con los estudios de periodismo. El artículo discute la promoción de la invisibilidad de las fuentes especializadas femeninas y encuentra que el programa no reconoció el protagonismo de las mujeres al no recurrir a las mujeres como fuentes periodísticas. La discusión apunta a la prevalencia de fuentes masculinas expertas en la construcción de noticias, a pesar de la presencia mayoritaria de mujeres profesionales en el campo de la salud em Brasil. O artigo discute a ausência na produção jornalística de práticas de inclusão com enfoque em gênero. O recorte do estudo é a invisibilidade de fontes femininas no programa Combate ao coronavírus, exibido pela Rede Globo de Televisão. Foram selecionadas todas as 49 edições e analisou-se as fontes consultadas e citadas diretamente. A discussão fundamenta-se no gênero como perspectiva analítica em interface com os estudos do jornalismo. O artigo percorre a promoção da invisibilidade de fontes de mulheres especialistas e constata que o programa não reconheceu o protagonismo feminino ao não recorrer às mulheres como fontes jornalísticas.
