Resumo: The present article presents an appointment and analysis for economic growth and poverty in the main economies of Latin America. Thus, it develops a brief historical appointment for the Region and, in the sequence, highlights the attached behavior that pointed out the economic growth, and afterwards, it analyses a body of social indicators that point out to the hardening of poverty in the region. It concludes by emphasizing that Latin America had a steady economic growth in the last 50 years; however, it did not decrease their historical social inequalities. So, the basic characteristic of the region is the coexistence of part of the population included in a context of capitalistic consumption and another one, excluded, in some situations, even from the basic needs for survival. Key-words – Growth. Poverty. Latin America

Key-words – Growth. Poverty.
