Resumo: The development of contemporary society, based on the specifics of each historical moment, ends up reformulating the economic, social and political policies, changing the State-Market relationship. In such a way that this article seeks to analytically develop the dimension of the relationship between these two important institutions. It has as its guiding thread the evolution of economic thought, where in each historical moment there is a different look and posture. For this, it uses critical analysis and contributions from bibliographic and documentary research. Reflection achieves its objective by showing, in the present times, the rupture of the pragmatism of neoliberal thinking in facing the crisis imposed by COVID-19.

Tem como fio condutor a evolução do pensamento econômico, onde, em cada momento histórico, se verifica um olhar e uma postura diferentes. Para tanto, utiliza-se de análise crítica e de aportes de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental.
