Resumo: In this article, we aim to discuss the representation of the subaltern subject in Adolfo Caminha's literature, regarding the novel Bom-Crioulo (1895). To do so, we use the concept of subalternity based on the thoughts of Gramsci (1999; 2000) and Spivak (1987; 2014) in conjunction with issues of race, gender and sexuality. We also approach the literary movements Realism and Naturalism in Brazil, in dialogue with the social issues related to the end of the 19th century, when Caminha's work was published. Based on these theoretical assumptions, we analyze the construction of the character Amaro, protagonist of the referred novel, with a focus on black masculinity and on issues of affectivity, considering his condition as a subaltern subject for being black and homosexual.
