E esses modelos conservam-se praticamente inalterados em todas as culturas e épocas. Este artigo discute a contribuição de Gilgamesh para a construção do herói na história da literatura. Essa epopéia traz o herói ficcional mais antigo. Para nossa análise, trazemos a contribuição de Campbell sobre o herói. Após resumirmos a narrativa adaptada por Ludmila Zeman, realizamos a análise da obra, destacando como Gilgamesh se torna herói, como ele vence os perigos exteriores, como ele enfrenta os medos interiores. Conforme será evidenciado neste estudo, trata-se de uma jornada completa, que trata da amizade, das provações físicas e da busca da imortalidade.
