Resumo: The present work aims to analyze the novel Requiem para o navegador solitário, by Luis Cardoso, in order to observe the metaphorical constitution of the figure of the navigator. When a very brief retrospective of the image of navigations to the world scene is made – especially for the Portuguese feats. The historical-political scene of a Salazarist Portugal in relation to its colony in Timor, in front of the inevitable Second World War, is also evaluated in this research. From the imaginary point of view, the reading of the journey as an attitude of liberation is revisited in the transposition of the primordial locus of action to a female, young, Eastern character, forced (and instigated by herself) to venture into Dili in the search for her enchanted prince and an intimate encounter with herself.

Realiza-se uma breve retrospectiva da imagem das navegações para o cenário lusófono - sobretudo para os feitos portugueses. Avalia-se, também, nessa pesquisa, o cenário histórico-político de Portugal sobre o comando salazarista em relação à sua colônia no Timor, frente à inevitável Segunda Grande Guerra.
