Resumo: This work aims to analyze the feminine figure in the novel Antes de nascer o mundo, written by the Mozambican writer Mia Couto, based on the theories about imagination and, in particular, the studies of Gilbert Durand. An effort will be done to think each one of the symbols related to women, the way they appear in the book of the African writer, from the classification of images in Day Regulations and Night Regulations – and in its structures, esquizomórficas in the first Regulation and mystique and synthetic in the second – done by Durand in The anthropological structures of the imaginary. Finally, the narrative of Antes de nascer o mundo will be interpreted through the senses the symbols associated to femininity in it owns.

Será realizado um esforço no sentido de pensar os símbolos relacionados à mulher, da forma como eles aparecem na narrativa do escritor africano, a partir da classificação das imagens em Regime Diurno e em Regime Noturno – e em suas estruturas, esquizomórficas do primeiro Regime e místicas e sintéticas do segundo – desenvolvida por Durand em As estruturas antropológicas do imaginário.
