Resumo: With a theoretical and methodological basis guided by the studies developed by the Russian language philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin, mainly on the concepts of alterity, body and grotesque realism, this article aims to understand how certain bodies are valued as negative within the posthumous work The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien, focusing on an outline of the bodily characteristics of dwarves and orcs in comparison with reality from data on the violence suffered by black Brazilian women and the valuation of their bodies. Thus, observing how the subjects are constituted in the I-other relationship in a process of valuation, exclusion and extermination of those who are considered to be different. Furthermore, this body is also resistance and transcendence.
