Resumo: The current research aims to analyze the editorials produced by Jornal do Brasil, representative of the great press, between 1964 and 1968. The objective is to analyze the definitions and justifications around the civil-military coup and the military government, for this, the study focuses on understanding the concept of “Revolution” recorded by the journal in this context. Thus, it is verified that political changes are reflected in the discourse that needs to be accommodated, demonstrating its contradiction in the face of historical moment of uncertainties and political instability. The press written during this moment exercised strong influence on public opinion, thus using its pages to press and interfere in the government political agenda, it is also possible to notice its intention to justify its political positions. Despite its line of defense to the government, the journal understands, even before the outbreak of Institutional Act n.º 5, that the military’s stay in power and repression mean sums threat to its freedom of the press.

Editora da PUCRS - ediPUCRS2021-07-29info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/oficinadohistoriador/article/view/3967610.15448/2178-3748.2021.1.39676Oficina do Historiador; Vol. 14 No. 1 (2021): Single Volume; e39676Oficina do Historiador; Vol. 14 Núm. 1 (2021): Volumen único; e39676Oficina do Historiador; v. 14 n. 1 (2021): Volume Único; e396762178-374810.15448/2178-3748.2021.1reponame:Oficina do Historiadorinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)instacron:PUC_RSporhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/oficinadohistoriador/article/view/39676/26948Copyright (c) 2021 Oficina do Historiadorhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGuarnieri, Dayane Cristina2022-01-31T20:19:08Zoai:ojs.revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br:article/39676Revistahttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/oficinadohistoriadorPRIhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/oficinadohistoriador/oai||tatyana.maia@pucrs.br2178-37482178-3748opendoar:2022-01-31T20:19:08Oficina do Historiador - Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)false
