Lesbian Characters by Natalia Polesso: A space-off somewhere else

Resumo: This article discusses where and how the discourse on lesbianity stands in literature. Starting from the concept of space off, by Teresa de Lauretis (1994), “lesbian continuum”, by Adrienne Rich (2010), and “subalternity”, by Gayatri Spivak (2010), we aim at enlightening the spaces from where the discourses on lesbianity emerge, amongst the hegemonic discourse, essentially heteronormative and patriarchal. In order to do so, we look at the short stories “Flor, flores, ferro retorcido” and “As Tias”, by Brazilian writer Natalia Polesso, analyzing the way the author breaks such hegemony, through revising stereotypes and the ideas on the “being-on-the world” of the characters.

A partir de los conceptos de “otro lugar” y space-off, de Teresa de Lauretis (1994), de “continuum lésbico”, de Adrienne Rich (2010), y de “subalternidad”, de Gayatri Spivak (2010), procuramos aquí elucidar los espacios de donde emergen los textos de la lesbianidad, en medio del discurso hegemónico, esencialmente heteronormativo y patriarcal. Para eso, miramos los cuentos “Flor, flores, ferro retorcido” y “As Tias”, de la escritora brasileña Natalia Polesso, analizando la manera con que la escritora rompe ese discurso hegemónico, por medio de la revisión de estereotipos y del pensar el “estar-en-el-mundo” de las personajes.O presente artigo discute onde se situa o discurso da lesbianidade e as maneiras de fazê-lo na literatura de Natalia Borges Polesso. A partir dos conceitos de “outro lugar” e “space-off” de Tereza da Lauretis (1994), de “continuum lésbico”, de Adrienne Rich (2010) e de “subalternidade”, de Gayatri Spivak, (2010) procuramos elucidar os espaços de onde emergem os textos da lesbianidade em meio ao discurso hegemônico, essencialmente heteronormativo e patriarcal.
