The mediation of the 10-strings Brazilian guitar in between worlds: metaphor, analogical thinking and the permanence of the real

Resumo: Traditionally, the ten-strings Brazilian guitarists can play a role of “sayers in between worlds”. Partially rooted in their technical skills, partially rooted in the analogic thinking of the country people, they proceed to a multi-layered interpretation of the reality. In order to demonstrate such dynamics, we visited the album Esbrangente (2003), conceived by the folk musicians Roberto Corrêa, Badia Medeiros, Paulo Freire and, indirectly, by Manoel de Oliveira. Such a task is managed with the contributions of the philosopher like Edgar Morin, the anthropologist Eduardo Viveiros de Castro and the writer Guimarães Rosa. The study allows us to conclude that the poetic findings of Esbrangente rest on flashes of analogical thinking and refined musical technique and that the ten-strings Brazilian guitarists keep the poet's traits, whose wisdom allows them to cross the levels of the sertão's reality.

Buscamos plasmar esta dinámica a partir de los hallazgos poético-musicales de Esbrangente (2003), un disco que resalta la relación discípulo-maestro que se establece entre los guitarristas Roberto Corrêa, Badia Medeiros, Paulo Freire y Manoel de Oliveira. Contribuyen a esta propuesta nociones del pensamiento complejo de Edgar Morin y la antropología postestructural de Eduardo Viveiros de Castro y a través de la estética de Guimarães Rosa, ejemplificada por los cuentos Cara-de-Bronze y Meu tio Iauaretê. El estudio permite concluir que los hallazgos poéticos de Esbrangente descansan sobre destellos de pensamiento analógico y depurada técnica musical y que los guitarreros conservan los rasgos del poeta, cuya sabiduría le permite traspasar los niveles de la realidad del sertao.Na tradição, os violeiros sertanejos atuam como dizentes entremundos, apoiados no conhecimento técnico do instrumento e na sensibilidade analógica com que fazem uma leitura dos vários níveis da realidade. Buscamos flagrar essa dinâmica a partir dos achados poético-musicais de Esbrangente (2003), álbum que evidencia a relação discípulo-mestre estabelecida entre os violeiros Roberto Corrêa, Badia Medeiros, Paulo Freire e Manoel de Oliveira. Contribuem para essa proposta, noções oriundas do pensamento complexo de Edgar Morin e da antropologia pós-estrutural de Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, passando pela estética de Guimarães Rosa, exemplificada pelos contos Cara-de-Bronze e Meu tio Iauaretê.
