The “new” contemporary writing by/for women: Gender relations, affective capitalisms and the “Chick-lit / Soft Porn” literature

Resumo: This work is interested in investigating and identifying the logic of sensitivities and identifications that, to some extent, explain the success of the, “chick-lit / soft porn” novels, which invaded the Brazilian publishing market from the end of the 20th century to the present day current. This literature, made by women and aimed at the target audience of female readers, flood the physical/virtual shelves of bookstores with stories full of sexual and loving relationships, often described in profuse scenic details. This research uses the best-selling mercantile category to think of sales criteria above society’s regular reading averages. The focus of analysis was centered on the idea that such best-selling literature “chick-lit / soft porn” is a producer and reproducer of some speeches about the power relations between the genders and some forms of possible sexual experiences. Thus, the naturalized textual and symbolic representations of this literature nowadays incorporate an authorized source of consumption of narratives about eroticism, pleasure and love for women.

Esta literatura, hecha por mujeres y dirigida al público objetivo de las lectoras, inunda los estantes físicos/virtuales de las librerías con historias llenas de relaciones sexuales y amorosas, a menudo descritas en profundos detalles escénicos. Esta investigación utiliza la categoría mercantil best-seller para pensar en los criterios de ventas por encima de los promedios de lectura regulares de la sociedad. El foco del análisis se centró en la idea de que la literatura best-seller “chick lit/soft porn” es productora y reproductora de algunos discursos sobre las relaciones de poderes entre los géneros y algunas formas de posibles experiencias sexuales. Así, las representaciones textuales y simbólicas naturalizadas de esta literatura hoy en día incorporan una fuente autorizada de consumo de narrativas sobre erotismo, placer y amor por las mujeres.Esse trabalho se interessa em investigar e identificar as lógicas de sensibilidades e identificações que, em certa medida, explicam o sucesso dos romances “chick-lit/soft porn”, que invadiram o mercado editorial brasileiro a partir do final do século XX até os dias atuais.  Essa literatura, feita por mulheres e voltada para o público-alvo de leitoras, inundam as prateleiras físicas/virtuais das livrarias com histórias repletas de relacionamentos sexuais e amorosos, muitas vezes descritos em profusos detalhes cênicos. Essa pesquisa usa a categoria mercantil best-seller para pensar no critério de vendagens acima das médias de leitura regulares da sociedade. O foco de análise centrou-se na ideia de que tal literatura best-seller “chick-lit/soft porn” é produtora e reprodutora de alguns discursos sobre as relações dos poderes entre os gêneros algumas formas de vivências de sexualidades possíveis.
