The rural oasis of Pica against Chile: conflicts, interactions and re-arrangements (Tarapaca, North of Chile, 1880-1900)

Resumo: The implication that the chilenization process had in the Pica Oasis for the two first decades of Chilean dominion over this territory is analyzed and described through notarized documentation. More than delimiting the view of the great political and administrative processes, this article is addressed to examine the every-day life dynamics that caused tension to locals and government employees and at the same time generated organization and negotiation spaces among these actors. From this perspective aspects that were not considered until now in studies about the early chilenization of the territories of the Far North of Chile are examined, especially those referred to the impact that the defense of private interests and the use of legal mechanisms in order to protect acquired rights had.

Más que acotar la mirada en los grandes procesos político-administrativos, el artículo se aboca a revisar dinámicas de la vida cotidiana que pusieron en tensión a lugareños y funcionarios estatales y la vez generaron espacios de articulación y negociación entre estos actores. Desde esta perspectiva se revisan aspectos hasta ahora no considerados en los estudios sobre la temprana chilenización de los territorios del actual extremo norte de Chile, especialmente aquellos referidos al impacto que tuvo la defensa de intereses privados y el uso de los dispositivos legales para defender derechos adquiridos.Através da análise e documentação autenticada descreve a medida em que o processo de nacionalização estava no oásis de Pica durante as primeiras duas décadas de domínio do Chile sobre esse território. Mais do que olhar estreito em grandes processos políticos e administrativos, o artigo é revisar aboca dinâmica da vida cotidiana colocado sob pressão e estaduais e locais ao gerar espaços de coordenação e negociação entre esses atores.
