Deaths in the sea, pain on the land. Brazilians hit by the attack of the German submarine U-507 (august 1942)

Resumo: Since February of 1942, Brazilian merchant ships were torpedoed by German submarines. However, with the break of the diplomatic relationships among Brazil, Germany and Italy, the Nazi government took the decision of retaliating the Vargas government. For the Brazilian coast, it was sent the U-507 submarine. In August from that year, in just three days, five Brazilian ships were sunk, resulting in the death of hundreds of men, women and children. This article has the objective of knowing, even it being partially, the suffering of Brazilians that were on board and survived attacks from the German submarine, the suffering of the ones whom lost their families and the consequences of the German military aggression in Brazilian's society.

Para el litoral brasileño fue enviado el submarino U-507. En agosto de aquel año, en solamente tres días, cinco navíos brasileños fueron hundidos, resultando en la muerte de centenas de hombres, mujeres y niños. El artículo tiene por objetivo conocer, aunque parcialmente, el sufrimiento de los brasileños que, a bordo de los navíos, sobrevivieron a los ataques del submarino alemán, el dolor de aquellos que perdieron sus familiares y las repercusiones de la agresión militar alemana en la sociedad brasileña.Desde fevereiro de 1942, navios mercantes brasileiros eram torpedeados por submarinos alemães. No entanto, com o rompimento de relações diplomáticas do Brasil com a Alemanha e a Itália, o governo nazista tomou a decisão de retaliar o governo Vargas. Para o litoral brasileiro foi enviado o submarino U-507. Em agosto daquele ano, em apenas três dias, cinco navios brasileiros foram afundados, resultando na morte de centenas de homens, mulheres e crianças.
