Resumo: The martial court of the "Capitaes Gerais" to which Brigadier Gabriel de Torres y Velasco voluntarily submitted himself to in order to be absolved for giving up the Cartagena was a military trial which assumed a political nature. This case demonstrates the ongoing conflict between liberals and absolutists, but also shows, on the other hand, the tacit agreements aimed at keeping recent past events unknown. Throughout the trial process, there is no reference to the liberal triennium nor to the proclamation of the liberal constitution in Cartagena in 1820

Este caso no solo demuestra el actual conflicto entre liberales y absolutistas, sino que también muestra, por el contrario, los acuerdos tácitos sorbre la necesidad de mantener silencio acerca de los acontecimientos del reciente pasado. Así, durante todo el proceso de juicio, no se hace referencia al trienio liberal ni a la proclamación de la Constitución liberal en Cartagena en 1820.A corte marcial dos Capitães Gerais a qual voluntariamente submeteu-se o Brigadeiro Gabriel de Torres y Velasco para limpar seu nome por ter entregado a Praça de Cartagena de Índias foi um julgamento militar que acabou se tornando político. Este caso demonstra o conflito permanente entre liberais e absolutistas, mas também evidencia, por outro lado, os acordos tácitos sobre a necessidade de se manter silêncio sobre os acontecimentos do passado recente.
