Identity elements of international political violence: a comparative analysis of the Tupamaro Movement and the Red Brigades (1963-1980)

Resumo: This paper analyzes the influence of the Tupamaros – National Liberation Movement as regards the birth and later development of the Italian Red Brigades. In several of their statements, the Red Brigades themselves revealed that their actions had been inspired by the Tupamaros. In many cases, as will be seen for both groups, similarities exist with respect to the manner in which operations were carried out, even though the different spheres in which their formation and operations took place will also have to be examined.

Fueron los mismos brigadistas los que, en numerosos comunicados, otorgaron a los Tupamaros el papel de inspiradores de sus acciones. Como veremos, la manera de actuar de las dos organizaciones coincidía en muchos casos, a pesar de los diferentes entornos en los que se desarrollaron y actuaron. Neste artigo analisa-se a influência que teve o Movimento de liberação nacional Tupamaros durante o nascimento e o desenvolvimento das Brigadas Vermelhas italianas. Foram os próprios brigadistas os que, em numerosos comunicados, outorgaram aos Tupamaros o papel de inspiradores das suas ações.
