The Spanish press and the tribune function of the Catholic Church in Chile (1976-1978). The case of the hunger strike of relatives of the disappeared in 1978

Resumo: At the beginning of 1976 the Chilean church created the Vicariate of Solidarity, with it the distance with the military dictatorship grew and this was reflected in the international media. The present work seeks to identify the gaze of the Spanish media against the denunciations of the Catholic Church regarding the Chilean regime, in a context in which Spain was walking towards a democracy. It is concluded that most of the media directly supported the position of the Church, from a particular event that aroused empathy in the peninsula, the hunger strike of relatives of disappeared detainees, reflecting the changes that Spain and its media were experiencing.

Se concluye que la mayoría de los medios apoyaron directamente la postura de la Iglesia, a parir de un acontecimiento en particular que despertó la empatía en la península, la huelga de hambre de los familiares de detenidos desaparecidos, reflejando los cambios que vivía España y sus medios.No início de 1976 a Igreja chilena criou o Vicariato de Solidariedade, com ele cresceu a distância com a ditadura militar e isso se refletiu na mídia internacional. O presente trabalho busca identificar o olhar da mídia espanhola frente às denúncias da Igreja Católica a respeito do regime chileno, em um contexto em que a Espanha caminhava para uma democracia.
