From the rio Magdalena to the rio de la Plata: Two cases of circulation and reception of ideas from the left in the first decades of the 20th century

Resumo: The objective of this paper is to describe the different ways in which the reception and circulation of the ideas of the left (freedom, equality, union and resistance) occurred, within the framework of the mobility of two popular intellectuals from Brazil and Colombia, during the first decades of the twentieth century. From a comparative perspective I will locate the forms of circulation through the deployment of both spatial and temporal scales, establishing rhythms, continuities and ruptures as constitutive elements of the circulation processes. For the Brazilian case, I will turn to the figure of Abilio de Nequete (Fiha, Líbano, 1888 - Porto Alegre, 7 de agosto de 1960). In Colombia, I will identify the trajectory of Raúl Eduardo Mahecha (El Guamo, octubre 13 de 1884 - Bogotá, julio 17 de 1940). Based on this comparison, I will maintain, in terms of hypotheses, that the circulation of ideas at the individual level made it possible that, around ideas, circulation networks were created that enabled their appropriation within the popular sectors. Process that was not only given by the intrinsic strength of the ideas themselves, but by the charisma of the subjects and their image as intellectual-popular. In this way, a double process of intellectual and popular constitution was organized within the framework of the circulation of ideas.

A partir de una perspectiva comparada ubicaré las formas de circulación por medio del despliegue de escalas tanto espaciales como temporales, estableciendo ritmos, continuidades y rupturas como elementos constitutivos de los procesos de circulación. Para el caso brasilero acudiré a la figura de Abilio de Nequete (Fiha, Líbano, 1888 - Porto Alegre, 7 de agosto de 1960). En Colombia, identificaré la trayectoria de Raúl Eduardo Mahecha (El Guamo, 13 de octubre de 1884 - Bogotá, 17 de julio de 1940). A partir de esta comparación sostendré, en términos de hipótesis, que la circulación de las ideas a escala de los individuos hizo posible que se constituyeran redes que posibilitaron su apropiación en el seno de los sectores populares. Proceso que no solo se dio por la fuerza intrínseca de las ideas en sí, sino por el carisma de los sujetos y su imagen como intelectuales-populares. De esta manera, se agenció un doble proceso de constitución intelectual y popular en el marco de la circulación de las ideas.   O objetivo deste artigo é descrever as diferentes maneiras pelas quais a recepção e circulação das ideias de esquerda (liberdade, igualdade, união eresistência) ocorreram, no marco da mobilidade de dois intelectuais popularesde Brasil e da Colômbia, durante as primeiras décadas do século XX. A partirde uma perspectiva comparativa, localizarei as formas de circulação através da implantação de escalas espaciais e temporais, estabelecendo ritmos, continuidades e rupturas como elementos constitutivos dos processos de circulação. No caso brasileiro, voltarei à figura de Abilio de Nequete (Fiha, Líbano, 1888 - Porto Alegre, 7 de agosto de 1960). Na Colômbia, identificarei a trajetória de Raúl Eduardo Mahecha (El Guamo, 13 de outubro de 1884 - Bogotá, 17 de julho de 1940). A partir dessa comparação, sustentarei, em termos de hipóteses, que a circulação de ideias no nível individual possibilitou a criação de redes de circulação que possibilitaram sua apropriação dentro dos setores populares. Processo que não foi dado apenas pela força intrínseca das ideias em si, mas pelo carisma dos sujeitos e sua imagem como intelectual-popular.
