Resumo: Morgado de Mateus was the first governor of São Paulo Captaincy after the restauration of 1765. One of the first actions of his government was the urbanization of captaincy, with the erection of new villages, and the spacial reorganization, according with the new enlightened norms of Pombaline government. His goal was to civilize the inhabitants, to settle them in civil villages, and to submit them to the Royal authority.

El Morgado de Mateus fue el primer gobernador de la Provincia de Sao Paulo tras su restauración en 1765. Una de las principales acciones de su gobierno fue la urbanización de la capitanía, con la construcción de nuevos pueblos, y su reorganización espacial, de acuerdo con las nuevas directrices ilustradas del gobierno pombalino. Su intención era civilizar a los habitantes mediante el establecimiento de ellos en asentamientos civiles, sometiéndolos a la autoridad real. O morgado de Mateus foi o primeiro governador da Capitania de São Paulo após sua restauração em 1765. Uma das principais ações de seu governo foi a urbanização da capitania, com a ereção de novas vilas, e a sua reorganização espacial, de acordo com as novas diretrizes ilustradas do governo pombalino. Sua intenção era civilizar os habitantes, fixando-os em povoações civis, submetendo-os à autoridade real.
