From witness to relevant player: Beatriz Bojunga at the Instituto Nacional de Cinema Educativo (1936-1965)

Resumo: Beatriz Roquette Bojunga (1911-1999) worked for 30 years at the National Institute of Educational Cinema or INCE, in the Portuguese acronym (1936-1966). Throughout that period she went from secretary to director of the film library, and her activities involved the organization of production, and the release of films from the first official producer of movies in Brazil. Being Humberto Mauro’s right hand, in contrast to what was established in the bibliography, she even participated in shooting. Thus, much more than a ‘handyman,’ as she defined her job, she would have been what is today called a production director, and the  effective promoter of INCE, acting as a cultural mediator between the institution, experts and the public she helped develop. This paper aims to expose that context, taking into consideration the silence of Bojunga’s own report on her status at INCE – due to the irrelevance attributed to women’s professional activities, by men and women alike, and due to the scarcity of written documentation about her actions. However, if such interdict points to gender issues, these are pervaded and clouded by social belonging.

A lo largo de ese período fue  secretaria,  la directora de Filmoteca y ejecutó actividades ligadas a la organización de la producción y divulgación de las películas de la primera productora oficial del país. Brazo derecho de Humberto Mauro, al contrario de lo que se estableció en la bibliografía, ella también participaba de filmaciones. Así, menos de lo que una hace todo, como designaba su función, ella habría sido lo que hoy se denomina 'directora de producción' del INCE y su divulgadora, actuando, así, como mediadora cultural entre la institución, especialistas y el público que ayudó a crear. Es lo que se busca mostrar en este artículo, teniendo en cuenta el silencio en el relato de Bojunga sobre su estatuto en el INCE - debido a la irrelevancia atribuida a las actividades profesionales de mujeres, por los hombres y por las propias mujeres, y a la escasez de documentación escrita sobre su actuación. Sin embargo, si los interdictos apuntan cuestiones de género, éstos son atravesados y toldados por la pertenencia social.Beatriz Roquette Bojunga (1911-1999) atuou por 30 anos no Instituto Nacional de Cinema Educativo, o INCE (1936-1966). Ao longo desse período foi de secretária a diretora da filmoteca e executou atividades ligadas à organização da produção e divulgação dos filmes da primeira produtora oficial do país. Braço direito de Humberto Mauro, ao contrário do que se estabeleceu na bibliografia, ela também participava de filmagens. Assim, menos do que uma faz-tudo, como designava sua função, ela teria sido o que se denomina hoje ‘diretora de produção’ do INCE e sua divulgadora, atuando, assim, como mediadora cultural entre a instituição, especialistas e o público que ajudou a criar. É o que se busca mostrar neste artigo, levando em conta o silêncio no relato de Bojunga sobre seu estatuto no INCE – devido à irrelevância atribuída às atividades profissionais de mulheres, pelos homens e pelas próprias mulheres, e à escassez de documentação escrita sobre sua atuação.
