Resumo: Introduction: the elderly represent a population with heterogeneous characteristics active in the health-disease process. The Geriatric 8 scale represents a screening tool used in elderly people with cancer to identify frail individuals.Aim: to describe the clinical-epidemiological profi le and the prevalence of the impaired Geriatric 8 score in elderly with cancer undergoing systemic antineoplastic treatment.Method: observational, cross-sectional study in patients aged ≥60 years who did systemic antineoplastic treatment for solid tumors in two tertiary hospitals from May to September 2020.Results: the study included 178 individuals with an average age of 70, 8 ± 7.6 years, 57.1% were female and 82.6% with some comorbidities. The main neoplasms identified were lung (21.9%), breast (15.7%) and colorectal (14.0%), diverse according to sex, and 72.5% had metastatic disease. The prevalence of score ≤ 14 by the Geriatric 8 scale was 66.9%.Conclusion: the characterization of the clinical-epidemiological profile of elderly with cancer in a population allows the identification of variables that directly and indirectly affect the treatment and evolution of neoplastic diseases. The high prevalence of impaired Geriatric 8 score demonstrates the susceptibility of the population studied, suggesting the need to develop strategies to improve the prognosis and quality of life of these individuals.

Editora da PUCRS - ediPUCRS2023-04-28info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/pajar/article/view/4399710.15448/2357-9641.2023.1.43997PAJAR - Pan American Journal of Aging Research; Vol. 11 No. 1 (2023): Single Volume - Continuous Flow of Publication; e43997PAJAR - Pan-American Journal of Aging Research; Vol. 11 Núm. 1 (2023): Volumen Único - Publicación en Flujo Continuo; e43997PAJAR - Pan-American Journal of Aging Research; v. 11 n. 1 (2023): Volume Único ; e439972357-964110.15448/2357-9641.2023.1reponame:PAJAR - Pan American Journal of Aging Researchinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)instacron:PUCRSporhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/pajar/article/view/43997/27966Copyright (c) 2023 PAJAR - Pan-American Journal of Aging Researchhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSgnaolin, ValériaHaygertt Mallmann, FranciellyHerberto Schneider, Rodolfo2023-12-14T17:09:15Zoai:ojs.revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br:article/43997Revistahttp://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/pajar/about/editorialTeamPRIhttp://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/pajar/oaicataldo@pucrs.br||pajar@pucrs.br2357-96412357-9641opendoar:2023-12-14T17:09:15PAJAR - Pan American Journal of Aging Research - Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)false
