Resumo: Introduction: burn injuries among the elderly are accidents that largely occur at their own home and being mostly preventable. There is a need for studies on this theme, it leads to an increase in the need for hospital medical care and in the length of said hospitalization, resulting in a worse prognosis, and, consequentially, in increased mortality. Objective: analyze the notifications of burn accidents in the city of São Paulo during the year 2022. Methods: this is a cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective study, using data collected from the Information System for the Surveillance of Violence and Accidents (SIVVA) of the Municipal Health Secretariat of the city of São Paulo, where reports of burn accidents are recorded through a notification form. Results: during 2022, 201 cases of burn accidents were reported in people over 60 years of age living in the city of São Paulo. These accidents were more frequent amongst women, in the age group below 70 years of age and in the domestic environment. Conclusion: the study contributes to expanding the knowledge regarding a theme of little study and suggests that such aspects need to be further researched and considered in relation to public policies aimed at the health of the elderly, in a way that helps to reduce the occurrence of accidents, especially burns, and minimizing the impacts they cause on quality of life.

Editora da PUCRS - ediPUCRS2024-02-05info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/pajar/article/view/4513010.15448/2357-9641.2024.1.45130PAJAR - Pan American Journal of Aging Research; Vol. 12 No. 1 (2024): Single Volume - Continuous flow; e45130PAJAR - Pan-American Journal of Aging Research; Vol. 12 Núm. 1 (2024): Volumen Único - Flujo continuo; e45130PAJAR - Pan-American Journal of Aging Research; v. 12 n. 1 (2024): Volume único - Fluxo contínuo; e451302357-964110.15448/2024.1.reponame:PAJAR - Pan American Journal of Aging Researchinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)instacron:PUCRSporhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/pajar/article/view/45130/28451Copyright (c) 2024 PAJAR - Pan-American Journal of Aging Researchhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessLeci Rodrigues, CintiaManso, Maria Elisa Gonzalez2024-02-05T13:12:15Zoai:ojs.revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br:article/45130Revistahttp://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/pajar/about/editorialTeamPRIhttp://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/pajar/oaicataldo@pucrs.br||pajar@pucrs.br2357-96412357-9641opendoar:2024-02-05T13:12:15PAJAR - Pan American Journal of Aging Research - Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)false
