Professional politician profile during the dictatorship (1967-1982): Social background and career analysis of the federal deputies of Arena and MDB

Resumo: This paper investigates the professional political profile of those who acted as Federal Deputies during the last authoritarian experience in Brazil (1964- 1985), which was marked by a scenario of great instability and uncertainty regarding the maintenance of a political career. Therefore, the biographical data of the elected/alternate members are analyzed by the subtitles created in 1965, Aliança Renovadora Nacional (Arena) and the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), considering the legislatures of 1966, 1970, 1974 and 1978. In all, there are 1,703 cases that make up the database, considering 22 variables. The methodological approach used is quantitative, with the application of multiple correspondence analysis and cluster analysis. As a result, four profiles of professional politicians were found, mainly distinguished by their political career traits. Sociological data did not indicate a significant contribution in the identification of the profiles, with the majority of men, white, with a mean age between 40-50 years and with a gradual high level of education.

Para tanto, analisa-se os dados biográficos dos eleitos/suplentes pelas legendas Aliança Renovadora Nacional (Arena) e Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (MDB), considerando as legislaturas de 1966, 1970, 1974 e 1978. Ao todo são 1.703 casos que compõem o banco de dados, considerando 22 variáveis. A abordagem metodológica utilizada é a quantitativa, com aplicação de análise de correspondência múltipla e análise de conglomerado. Como resultado, foram encontrados quatro perfis de políticos profissionais, que se distinguiam principalmente pelos traços de carreira política.
