Resumo: | The article reflects on the activities of the Church of World Messianity and Soka Gakkai among Brazilians living in Japan. The main question is what role the communities play for members who are dealing with problems resulting from their diasporic situation. It is argued that although the two groups considerably distinguish themselves in terms of beliefs and religious routines, it is a common feature that they serve as local agencies of support, socialization and integration thus preventing its adherents from alienation |
