Resumo: In a time in which religious questions are at the top of public agendas it becomes vital to reflect upon the role of the religious memory in the process of cultural transmission and the dynamics of identity formation. This memory cannot be traced back to a single source. Rather, this memory is composed of many memories and - in the context of multiply modernities – marked by transnational and global flows of the religious dimension. At the same time, one has to bear in mind that memory is not a static entity but constantly molded by oblivion and invention.

É que a memória não se reduz a uma raiz única. Trata-se sempre de uma memória de memórias, marcada, no contexto das modernidades múltiplas, pelos trânsitos do religioso transnacional e global.
