Resumo: This article approaches a crucial episode of the history of Islam in Brazil, that is, the revolution of African Muslims in Brazil, called Males. That community had lived under the condition of slavery until in 1835, in the city of Bahía, stirred up one of the most important rebellions in the history of Islam in Brazil. The article focusses on the testimony of the Males quoted in the manuscript of Abdurrahman Al Baghdadi, the first Muslim scholar to reach the coast of Brazil by accident in 1865, 30 years after the revolution.
